I read an article in the June/July 2008 edition of Mother Earth News last night about a couple from South Carolina that build a Cabin from Recycled Material. It is a small cabin that is very 'simple' looking. But it looks like 'home.'
They got the 4x4s and the 6x6s from their barn, just lying around and that they dug up from old fence posts. The stud walls came from old lumber torn out from a previous remodel.
They wanted the old rustic, brownish, fresh-cut lumber look but had no idea how to acquire that look. An man down the stret was tearing down an old barn and told them they could have what they wanted. They even traded lumber for the floor joists, which are 2-inch thick tongue and groover pine boards. Even the steps are recycled.
They furnished it with items they had already purchased form yard sales.
